Becoming a mum is a whirlwind. It’s beautiful, fulfilling, overwhelming, exhausting, heartwarming and every single emotion in between. Luckily for us, there is an unbelievable amount of information and guidance (and let’s be honest, at times some unsolicited advice) at our fingertips. It seems that in our day-to-day lives from trying to conceive, pregnancy, birth and through to raising these little crotch angels, there is an abundance of knowledge for all things mum-related. So, what was the one thing that I still had no clue about post-kids? Literally ANYTHING and EVERYTHING pelvic floor-related. So here are a few things that I have picked up along my journey of becoming a mum and becoming part of the Core Restore team.
1) Incontinence is not ‘normal’
This would have to be the biggest lesson I have learnt and the most important message that I will continue to blurt out to anyone that will listen. We have been raised in a society where we as mums always put ourselves last and incontinence after having children was made out to be “just how it is”. This could not be further from the truth. By three months post partum if you are still experiencing urinary incontinence then you need to start your journey to strengthen your pelvic floor. You are not damned to a life of having to change your undies every time you want to show the kids up on the trampoline. Fix that Pelvic Floor and show them you still got it girl.
2) I am not alone in this journey
Despite our best efforts, incontinence is still quite a taboo topic and one that many women often feel embarrassed to speak about. Which is why I was astonished to find out that 1 in 2 women suffer. What do you mean it’s just not me! I won’t forget the feeling of relief I felt when I knew I wasn’t the only member of the accidental tinkle task force. The more I reached out to friends and family the more I realised that so many of us were in this together.
3) The trio of support
The pelvic floor is the unsung hero of the body and is responsible for supporting not one, not two, but three of the body’s organs: the bladder, the bowel and the uterus. When you have a strong pelvic floor (visualise it as a supportive little hammock) it is able to hold these three organs in place and there is correct blood flow to each, ensuring they operate effectively. In contrast, when you have a weak pelvic floor (pelvic muscle dysfunction), these organs are not operating efficiently and that’s where you start to encounter problems such as leakage, a feeling of heaviness in the vagina, pain with sex and reduced sensation in the vagina.
4) Let’s talk about sex, baby!
Ooooooooooo yes. The Pelvic floor muscles play a huge role in sexual function and wellness. A strong and functional pelvic floor can increase not only the frequency but also the intensity of your orgasm. A strong pelvic floor helps to stimulate the clitoris (aka, a gals best friend) during sex getting you on the express train to pleasure town, as well as increasing your ability to contract during orgasm leading to a more intense experience. Can we all take a moment to vote for the pelvic floor as the real MVP?
5) There is an easy, non-invasive solution
All of the above would not have been possible without the education that the amazing team at Core Restore have provided me on my personal journey to not only strengthening my pelvic floor, but increasing my quality of life. Core Restore is the simple solution to a weak pelvic floor through their revoluntary Emsella treatment.
Emsella uses High Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology which helps your body achieve supramaximal contractions. By the time your 28 minute session (vagina bootcamp session) is complete, you have done the equivalent to almost 12,000 Kegels.
My take away? The pelvic floor is an absolutely amazing muscle and deserves to be STRONG – Just like you! So if you are unsure or think you are perhaps suffering from a weak pelvic floor then make sure you take action. COME SIT ON THE THRONE SIS, you deserve it
